This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 12 was on teaching productive skills, which are speaking and writing. There are two different types of activities which help productive skills, accuracy-based and fluency-based activities. At times the teacher will find it important for students to be accurate, especially when performing drills. However, there will also be time when it is more important for students to be able to speak or write with more creativity than accuracy. Teachers need to incorporate both methods in their lesson planning. They also need to make sure they are encouraging student interaction. I found this unit very helpful in finding ways to engage students with speaking and writing when they may be hesitant to do so.
