Conditional are used to speculate what could happen. There are five types of main conditional. Zero conditional: if/when+present tense, present tense. It refers to actions and facts that are unquestionable. First conditional: if+present simple, will. Talks about a real situation in the future that is possible. Second conditional: if+past simple, would/could/might +base form. Communicate a present or future 'unreal'. Third conditional: if+past perfect, would/could/might+have+past particle. Refers to a hypothetical past action and the hypothetical past result. Mixed conditional: if+past perfect, would+base form. Refers to a hypothetical past action or state and the hypothetical present consequence.
