In unit 14, I learned that various teachers have different views on using pre-existing course material or not. However, using a balance of coursework and the teacher's own supplementation is useful. There is valuable information and tools in ESL books, yet knowing your students' interests and using supplementary materials to engage in those interests, makes the the class more interesting for the students while keeping the teachers' creative skills in action. It is important to think of cost when selecting a class textbook in order to make it affordable to all. As well, methodology and whether supporting materials (dvd's, etc.) are included should be considered when selecting a class textbook.
