I found this unit helpful with regard to thinking about my first lesson (with a new group), different levels and large groups. The information confirmed what I know and have previously experienced. I have found that with the first lesson generally it is better to focus on building a good rapport between the teacher and learners. With different levels in one class, the key is to always have extra more challenging work for those who are excelling (so they don't get bored) and work with simpler goals for those who are not keep up (so they stay motivated). With large groups the key is to have clear structure so that there is no chaos or sense of insecurity in the teacher. Good planning goes a long way.
