This unit taught about the two areas of English language teaching, and gave an overview of the skills that the areas consist of. It focuses on teaching the receptive skills, which are reading and listening comprehension. The lesson further breaks it down into the very specialized linguistic abilities which go into receptive skills- predictive skills, scanning for specific information, skimming for general ideas, seeking detailed information, and deducing meaning from context. The unit gives an overview of the different ways we use receptive skills, and finally proceeds to give plenty of example lesson plans and materials for receptive skill lessons. I learned much about teaching receptive skills here.
