This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit is about pronunciation and phonology. I learned the different patterns of speaking and intonation differs depending on the type of message the speaker wants to get across. I also learned more about the phonemic alphabet. I've seen this in my students' textbooks, and can generally read it, but I've never independently learned about it. I learned about the places of articulation, which is extremely good for me to know. Now that I understand where the sounds are coming from, and can more easily guide my students on how to make the sounds appropriately.
This was a very complicated, yet useful, unit for me. As an ALT working with a Japanese teacher, my focus is primarily on teaching pronunciation.
