A textbook is often used for a generalized audience, so often still teachers will need to adjust the lesson to their specific learners. Authentic materials are things a native speaker will encounter naturally in their lives. These things can include television programs, music and songs, movies, books, menus, and so on. These can be more interesting, and developing the lesson plan yourself gives a teacher much more power and flexibility.
