This unit focuses on the receptive skills, reading and listening, and how to foster and balance those skills in a lesson as well as over time. The unit provides examples of potential lesson outlines that specifically target reading and listening skills, and it also breaks down reading and listening activities into the potential difficulties students may have with them and how to overcome those challenges. I learned from this unit that pre-teaching vocabulary that the teacher anticipates will be new or difficult for students can help them in both reading and listening activities. I also learned the difference between authentic and non-authentic materials and how and for what levels each type is appropriate.
