This was a very short unit, but necessary. Introducing new vocabulary, grammar, and functions is important. When selecting vocabulary there are three things to consider: appropriate, frequency, and teachability. When teaching vocabulary and grammar, students will need to know meaning and use. When teaching vocabulary a student will also need to know word grammar, interaction, spelling and pronunciation. When teaching grammar a student will also need to know forms and patterns, and spoken and written forms. Functions to teach include: inviting, refusing, agreeing, disagreeing, and suggesting. All three teachings, vocabulary, grammar, and functions will be easily taught using the ESA lesson structure.
