The main thing I learned in this unit was the fact that there are four basic language skills; reading and listening which are receptive as well as speaking and writing which are productive. Prior to this lesson, I wasn't aware of these four categories. More specifically, I received insight on reading and listening in this unit and the importance of each when learning english. The unit highlighted different kinds of receptive skills related to reading and listening such as predictive skills, skimming skills, scanning skills, analyzing detailed information and deducing meaning from context. The main thing I learned was how to help students develop their receptive skills through a straight arrow ESA lesson.
