Unit 11 looked at teaching receptive skills. There are four types of language skills, productive and receptive. Productive skills are speaking and writing. Receptive skills are reading and listening. When teaching receptive skills there are few basic ideas that need to be followed. Normally these lessons are based upon a material that the student has to listen to or read. This material needs to be interesting. The teacher needs to build interest in it before it is given to the students. the material shouldn't always be the same. It should be used to practice skills. It should be something that the students can engage with at their skill level. It should also have an activate phase that is related to the text.
