In this unit we learn about the teaching of pronunciation and phonology, as well as the difference between the two. We study intonation and the techniques for indicating and teaching it. We look at stress, the lack of stress and the techniques for indicating and teaching stress. We learn about sound joining, linked speech, the phonemic alphabet and articulation. We look at the manner of articulation, teaching techniques for the pronunciation of individual sounds and when to teach pronunciation. This unit is very important to learn to teach as it is often neglected by teachers who are not native English speakers. So improving the pronunciation of the English language is vital for us to achieve with our students.
