Phonetics are difficult for students to grasp because they try to understand the meaning of the words.
Intonation is the usage of diverse volume and pitch in a sentence to emphasize message, questions, agree/disagree, and expressions. Stress is mainly with individual words than the entire sentence. There are three types of intonation: the rise/fall, the fall/rise, and flat.
Techniques to learn intonation can be nonsense words, gestures, humming/singing the sentence, or writing out the sentence on the board with arrows for indications of the intonations.
