This unit covered the productive language skills of writing and speaking. Like the receptive skills of reading and listening, these skills form part of the foundation of language arts skill. My experience with learning these skills in my private language studies has lead me to two conclusions thus far. The first being that students are likely to be familiar with a relatively large number of words; however, only a fraction of those words will actually be accessible to them in daily conversation until experience with the language has been built up. The second is that there is no fast way to teach or learn writing skills and that lots of effort needs to be devoted to developing good handwriting and good writing skills.
