Unit 6 introduced and reviewed the four forms of the past tense: past simple, past progressive, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. The forms of the verbs are similar to the present tenses, except that they relate to past time periods. The unit reviews the forms, usages, common mistakes and errors made by students, and sample Activate teaching ideas for each of the four past tenses. For the past simple tense, the only irregular verb that has more than one form according to person is ‘to be’. Some verbs have irregular past forms, but there are no rules to help students learn these irregulars. Students may have a difficult time differentiating between the usages of some of the past and present tenses.
