Course books and materials often serve as a vital tool in the classroom, but may at times either be a crutch for new teachers, or too general or uninteresting for more experienced teachers. Teachers should approach use of a course book with balance, and remember that the end goal is for their students to learn. Often times, course books supply substantial organized curriculum, but lack in a creative edge, so supplying supplementary materials, either authentic or creative should be considered. A good teacher recognizes that there is an occasional need to omit lessons from coursebooks, adapt their lessons within the course book, replace material that is not suitable, and supplement the lessons with supporting material.
