This unit focused on receptive skills. Included in receptive skills are reading and listening. The unit covers why we read and listen and how we do both. An example of why we read and listen is for pleasure or for a purpose of accomplishing a certain goal. Taking this information into account, the unit continues by giving the teacher ideas and instructions on how to best strengthen students receptive skills with the English language. The unit finishes by covering some obstacles that students may have with listening and reading which include overly complex or uninteresting texts for example. Overcoming these issues can be accomplished by creating interest for the students and providing appropriate and digestible texts.
