In Unit 10, we watched two videos of the same lesson taught in two different ways and compared them. The teacher, students and basic lesson content was the same, which helped to show very clearly the impact that the teacher's style and engagement with the students can have on the effectiveness of the lesson. In Lesson 1, the teacher's explanations (too much jargon, no examples) and attitutde (no praise, no monitoring) were very poor and this showed in the students' confusion and reluctance to participate. On the other hand, Lesson 2 showed the teacher engaging with and eliciting from the students from the beginning and supporting them step-by-step through the vocabulary and target grammar to reach their learning goal.
