This unit dealt with the use of published course materials and the need to adapt and supplement those materials to make the course relevant to students. My experience with foreign-published course materials has proven that adaptation and supplementing will be required, especially since the explanations are frequently superficial and exercises are very limited. If an instructor does not supplement the materials, the students will not really develop good skills.
Having said that, supplementing requires a lot of dedication and additional preparation time for the courses. It is true that it can be re-used, but probably not forever - at some point, the supplemental material is as outdated and boring as the course material.
