In this unit, teachers are instructed not only in the methodology of teaching pronunciation and phonetics, but the underlying structure of how words and sentences are spoken. I especially enjoyed the section on articulation whereby the different physical parts comprising speech are shown and defined. The phonetic symbols were unknown to me prior to reading the unit and found the difficult to comprehend at first but using them in various phrases and sentences was a very interesting exercise. I also enjoyed learning about how intonations can change the nature of the sentence, depending on whether or not a response is needed. This unit took much longer for me to study but I can honestly say it was well worth the effort.
