This unit provided a brief overview of many techniques used in language teaching. It proposed the Engage, Study, Activate method as the preferred method. In the Engage stage of a lesson, you attempt to pique the students interest, and use language they already know in fun ways as a warm-up. In the Study phase, you present the new language you want them to learn in that lesson, and provide structured practice. In the Activate phase of the lesson, the aim is to have the students use the newly learned structure(s) along with previously learned language in a free, communicative, creative way. Though a lesson can have multiples of each of the stages, each lesson should begin with an Engage phase, and end with an Activate phase.
