Reported speech can be tricky, as there are often several changes to make. For example, the verb usually goes one tense back, this becomes that, etc. Conditionals can also be tricky; for example, the speaker needs to decide upon the future likelihood of the outcome as a result of the condition in order to choose the first or second conditional. That concerns the meaning. The use of tenses can also seem complicated to some learners, as can the length of the whole structure. As both reported speech and conditionals are complex, they need to be taught as the student progresses through subsequently higher levels. Trying to teach all the conditionals at once would almost certainly result in confusion on the part of the student.
