Motivation should be taken in to consideration when planning a lesson. Adding to a course book with supplemental aids such as a worksheet that will interest students can be more helpful than sticking rigidly to a course book. Course books can be helpful tools as well as lesson plans as a source of inspiration but should not be relied upon solely. Making eye contact and using gestures such as a finger to the lips is a more effective way of controlling some unruliness rather than shouting or yelling. There are so many valuable resources to capture students interest like the internet, DVD's and audio tapes, but a teacher should not expect students to always be on their best behavior. It is how we direct them that counts.
