Unit 14 covers the selection and usage of textbooks and cirriculum. Teachers should ideally use a combination of created materials and the class textbook (along with authentic materials for more advanced students). When using a textbook, it's important to be flexible with the material. Teachers should be prepared to omit, replace, supplement, and adapt the material to better suite their students. Sometimes textbooks are outdated, too easy or difficult, or have irrelevant topics that students will not find interesting. These are a few of the reasons why teachers should not teach solely from a textbook. It's better for teachers to be creative with their classes and tailor content to the level and interests of their students.
