Unit twelve covers the other important language skills that are not receptive but productive: speaking and writing. Unlike the receptive skills which involves reading and listening to language, the productive skills involve the students creating and showing their own language skills with their own original utterances. Productive and receptive skills are equally important, however productive skills can be known as being more difficult to learn as learners are forced to create their own sentences of communication. Speech is considered the primary part of language, whereas writing is secondary as children first acquire speech then learn writing. It's important for teachers to focus on both parts of the productive skills though.
