This unit’s focus was the teaching and proper use of new language. The first section of the unit provided tips on selecting and teaching new vocabulary and used a sample lesson using the ESA approach. Next, it explained ways to connect new vocabulary to appropriate grammatical use and function and once again provided sample lessons. The last section of the unit discussed new language functions such as inviting, refusing, agreeing and disagreeing, and included a detailed sample lesson. I found this unit helpful. Choosing relevant new words can be overwhelming due to the vast number of English language words. This unit provided a useful and well-structured approach to selecting and teaching classroom appropriate language.
