This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
For me, this unit emphasized the difficulty of pronouncing the English language, especially when starting from scratch. My takeaway is that speaking often with my students will naturally help them with this process, as well as creating safe spaces for them to speak and make mistakes (i.e. group repetition with some randomized single-ing out). As the poem in this unit illustrates, written material is not enough to teach proper pronunciation, and it seems possible that tools like the phonetic alphabet could easily add complexity to an already complex challenge for non-native speakers. It's my opinion that listening to native speech is the best way to understand pronunciation, as it gives you a model of English speech to strive for.
