The first lesson of new classes is vital for the teacher to establish rapport with the students and set the tone for the rest ofvthe course. There are two main categories: New groups (students don't know each other) and existing groups (students already knows each other), experienced teachers will not resort to the course book in the first lesson but will try to use activities that will achieve establish rapport, find out about students interests and needs and English level of each individual. Warmers are like icebreakers to help students settle in and become interested. Different levels, large classes, use of native language, reluctant students and difficulties with listening text are all problems teachers might face in a class.
