This unit stresses the importance of student assessment, so that teachers and students can monitor class progress.These test can help motivate students to review, and help teachers determine the student's understanding of the material. I personally feel that the diagnostic and progress exams are the two types that ELS teachers will find the most useful, unless, a teacher is helping a class prepare for an external exam.As the unit already stated, progress can have a motivating influence on the student, but not mentioned are the discouraging effects that test can have. For language course, a student who consistently scores 60% on exams, might not realize that that score could reflect some increase in knowledge that he didn't have before.
