This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In Unit 11: Teaching Receptive Skills, the concepts of reading and listening skills are introduced. These skills are equally as important as the productive skills (speaking and writing). There are two reasons that we read and listen - for information and for entertainment. There are also many different skills within reading and listening - skimming, scanning, prediction, detailed information, etc. When teaching these skills in a classroom setting, the teacher must make sure to create interest with the students, identify any problems with language being used, and use a detailed lesson plan. Overall, I learned about the two receptive skills in this unit, and I now feel confident that I could teach a lesson revolving around these two skills.
