This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit I learned the difference between receptive and productive skills. This is an important distinction to make since learning a language requires a balanced amount of learning of receptive as well as productive skills. The unit also describes important factors to consider when teaching receptive skills, such as the different types of specialist skills that can be developed and the importance of using authentic and non-authentic texts in lessons. The unit provided examples of comprehension tasks, ideas to make reading more interesting for students, and ways to approach language difficulties. Additionally, it demonstrated that it is important for students to learn to understand text without knowing every word so that they don't stay overly focused on the meaning of words.
