This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focused on teaching receptive skills and I found it fairly enlightening. The distinction between receptive and productive skills is something about which I have already learned, but it was still useful to read an overview of the listening and reading processes. In particular, I expect the section on skills that effective readers and listeners use to understand context will be useful, as I will check that my students are prepared to use all of these skills. What was written in the textbook about needing to strike a balance between pre-teaching everything and letting students discover every new word was also important for me. I think without reading that I may have erred too much on the side of pre-teaching all new vocabulary, which I now understand would have been to the disadvantage of my students.
