Learning about the different techniques for teaching new vocabulary and introducing grammatical structures was very interesting. The typical ESA structure for introducing new vocabulary is a lot more effective than simply writing words on the board, going over their pronunciation and meaning, then expecting students to memorize them. Using ESA methods, students are introduced to the words through activities designed for them to elicit the meaning; they study them through exercises designed to reinforce the information in the ?engage? portion; then they actually use these words in some designed context.
