This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
After completing this course I understand much more clearly the time, effort and dedication that goes into being a second language english teacher. First and foremost, I have learnt about my own language's grammar again! And I feel confident that I could teach it to students. I have learnt what it takes to be a good teacher. I plan to be kind, motivating, interactive, helpful and patient with the students I teach. I understand that a teacher does not only fulfill the role we imagine, but many diverse roles in the classroom depending on the situation. I plan to really take my students' cultures into account as I think that culture has a great influence on how people learn. I feel much more prepared to actually teach a lesson as I understand the 'Engage, Study, Activate' concept and have many resources at my disposal to create interesting and relevant lesson plans. I understand that my job as a teacher also involves evaluating students and that this requires sensitivity and flexibility. I feel that lesson planning is very important and I will be sure to create lesson plans for every class that I teach. I fully understand what goes into a good lesson plan and feel confident that I could execute it well.
I have learnt that depending on who I teach, students' needs will be varied and ever changing and I need to be aware of them and react appropriately. Mostly this course has taught me that there are fundamentals that I must adhere to but also that as I gain more experience I will always be learning new things as a teacher, even well on into my career.
