I’ve learnt that there are different ways of teaching and different ways to learn and it’s beneficial to use a variety of methods so all students’ profit. It’s helpful to use a combination of authentic and created material so students increase their confidence. Teaching vocabulary is just as important as teaching grammar. It’s easier to teach the rules of english grammar when students are familiar with different parts of speech and their application. Aspects of speech such as rhythm and stress, that may seem unimportant to the native english speaker, can be of great help to a learner to improve pronunciation and intonation. english is a complicated language due to a lack of consistency with its rules. I’m starting to teach english immediately after this course and will be thrown in the deep end, having not even observed a class in session (except the video we watched as part of the course.) I feel reasonably confident in my ability to create a lesson plan that fits the curriculum and know it will help ensure I am well prepared with the necessary materials and classroom arrangement. I hope I can blend the right balance of fun and interest into my lessons to ensure the environment promotes effective learning and retention.
